The First Hand Harvest CSA is made up of four individual family farms, each contributing the very best from their farm each week. These farmers met through a regional CRAFT Farm Beginnings, a grant sponsored program designed to provide resources for small farmers to thrive while growing sustainably and providing fresh food to local communities. In 2007, they combined their farming interests into a unique CSA that offers a range of local, fresh, farm products.   Your farmers are:

  • At Pine Row Farm in Roscoe, Don and Tresea are working hard to bring you the very best varieties of produce; tomatoes, peppers, carrots, beets, fresh cut greens, and much more. In addition, eggs from pasture raised hens, meat chickens, and goat milk soap are available.

  • Brookwood Farm grows a variety of fresh produce in Cherry Valley using sustainable farming methods.  John and Jennifer's goal is to provide the highest quality local produce to CSA members.  Brookwood Farm also grows alfalfa grass hay and promotes renewable energy use on the farm.

  • Mighty Sprout Farm in Rockford features perennial crops such as asparagus, blackberries, and raspberries.  Farmer Michael also adds free range chicken eggs as well as heirloom tomatoes and an assortment of root crops and greens to the CSA.

  • At Hazzard Free Farm in Pecatonica, Andrea (Andy) Hazzard specializes in heirloom and unique vegetable varieties as well as herbs.  Her specialties include potatoes, peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes.  She also has a passion for growing squash.
